At Hellas Textiles, our turf fibers are tufted into triple-layered, dimensionally stable backings. The backing is then fused with our polyurethane coating from Hellas Polymers, creating an exceptionally strong tuft-bind. The tuft-bind is the force required to pull a “tuft” out of a carpet, according to industry-standard test procedure. For turf, this is an extremely important measurement — a great tuft-bind bind means that the fibers will stay put after many years of wear and tear.
Our systems use MAPEI’s Ultrabond® Turf PU 1K, an eco-friendly non-toxic adhesive that offers an elastic join with exceptionally long durability. The Ultrabond PU 1K is a one-component adhesive compatible with our turf coating. It requires no on-site mixing - contributing to a uniform application, consistent at every seam and inlaid marking.
Matrix Turf systems add extra support by placing Turf Locks, reinforced rivets that are injected into the turf at every inlay, logo, graphic, and field marking. Turf Locks will provide additional reinforcement to every crucial area of the field. Patent # 7,835,096.
Shock pads, including elastic layers (e-layers) and geogrid pads, are installed on top of laser-graded drainstone to improve the field’s drainage and shock absorption (G-max). Hellas’ patented shock pad, Cushdrain®, is composed of mega rubber and moisture-cured polyurethane binder then paved-in-place to ensure planarity of the field and enhance the longevity of the turf. Additionally, shock pads are designed to be reused and will stay intact for several turf lifecycles, enhancing consistency, playability, and drainage of the surface. Shock pads also provide safety to athletes by reducing concussions due to the improved shock absorption.
Drainstone serves as the crucial, solid foundation for any turf field. The stone is free draining and must allow for a high degree of water migration, yet still exhibit excellent stability. This will allow the field to drain with ease, remain durable, and hold planarity throughout its life. Our laser grading technology will ensure a precise flat surface as the foundation of the turf system.
